Overview of ID and visa provisions according to nationality

List of all countries with information about:

  • further documents accepted for immigration (other than a valid national passport*))
  • and additional information, as well as the visa provisions, if any.

A passport is considered valid if:

  1. it identifies its holder, the holder's nationality, and the issuing state;
  2. it has been issued by a state officially recognized by Switzerland; and if
  3. it guarantees its holder the right to re-enter the issuing state at any time.

Common passport naming:

passport, diplomatic passport, service passport, special passport, official passport.

*) If the foreigner is subject to the obligation to hold a visa, his passport shall be valid at least another three months over the end of his stay.
