Stay abroad / emigration

Every year, around 30,000 Swiss nationals move abroad to begin a new life, to work, study, or for retirement. Some stay abroad for good, others for just a few years. Many return to Switzerland, bringing with them valuable work experience and experience of life. Classic destinations include Switzerland’s neighbouring states, Canada, the United States, Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia. The largest Swiss community abroad is in France. Moreover, about 25,000 expatriates return to Switzerland each year.
