International agreements

The Federal Office for Migration is responsible for the conclusion of bilateral agreements in the following fields: readmission, migration (in general), visa facilitation, visa exemption for holders of diplomatic, service or special passports, visa exemption for holders of ordinary passports, "stagiaires" and migration partnerships. The legal basis for these agreements is article 100 of the Federal Act on Foreign Nationals. The Federal Council is authorised to conclude such agreements with other States independently, that is without parliamentary approval.
