Linguistic analyses

Belonging to the FOM (Federal Office for Migration), LINGUA is a specialized unit that is responsible for the creation of scientific analyses of origin. With the help of external and independent experts, LINGUA tries to determine the primary socio-cultural background of those asylum-seekers which cannot produce any valid identification documents. The analysis is based on a linguistic analysis and on an analysis of the knowledge of the region or country of origin. Both analyses eventually result in a report.

In the framework of international cooperation and collaboration within the academic milieu, LINGUA has organized a workshop in 2008 with the aim of exchanging these experiences and of conveying a better knowledge of the domain.
